Clò na Tìre

Clò na Tìre (Cloth of the Land) was a collaborative design project celebrating the beauty and versatility of regenerative British materials and heritage craft. Bringing together bespoke tailor Alis Le May, natural dyer Julia Billings and Glasgow micro-mill Vevar, the collection was made entirely from UK-grown, biodegradable fibres such as British wool and linen, complemented by vintage silks, linens and cottons sourced from UK textile businesses. Rooted in Glasgow’s East End (once the weaving village of Camlachie), the project reconnected contemporary garment-making to local landscapes, historic craft, and the communities that shaped them.

Drawing on the Gaelic concept of Dùthchas — a profound sense of belonging to place and responsibility for its care — Clò na Tìre honoured the winding path of the Camlachie Burn and the Gaelic-speaking community that once thrived along its banks. Each garment in the collection embodied this ethos, combining handwoven cloth, natural dyes and meticulous craftsmanship to celebrate traceability, ecological stewardship and the enduring relationship between land, material and maker.
